IHSAA VOLLEYBALL SCOREKEEPERDUTIES
The official scorer should recordthe numbers of the starting players of each team in the serving ordersubmitted, in the appropriate spaces provided on the game scoring sheet. Each square represents one play or actionsuch as a serve, a substitution, or a time-out.Each play should be recorded as such using the appropriate figure in thekey accompanying the game scoring sheet.The squares, unless otherwise indicated, represent a serve. If a point is scored on the serve, therespective point shall be recorded. Ifthe serve results in a loss of rally, replay, or penalty, the appropriatefigure shall be inserted. As each pointis scored, the appropriate number should be marked off in the running scoresection.
Preliminary
Before the start of a match, the scorekeeper prepares thescore sheet for the match by printing the heading information at the top of thescore sheet. This includes the Date, Home, Visitor, Site, and Start Time
At the lower left side of the score sheet, the scorekeepershould complete the following information:
Referee – printfirst and last name
Umpire – printfirst and last name
Scorekeeper– print first and last name
After the coin toss for serve, the scorekeeper prints thenames of the teams on the sides on which they will begin to play. The scorekeeper designates which team has thefirst serve in column above the PointColumn.
Using the line-up sheets, the scorekeeper writes theplayers’ uniform numbers in starting floor position order (Right Back is listedfirst, Right Front is listed second) in the Player Number Column andmarks a small “c” after the floor captain’s number. Note that the floor position order (and thusthe way the lineup is recorded) is the same regardless of which team isserving. The umpire will use the lineupsheets to check the players’ starting positions on the court, while thescorekeeper simultaneously uses the score sheet to verify the players’positions. The starting time of thematch is defined as when the referee whistles for the first serve, and isrecorded in the upper right hand corner of the score sheet.
When rally scoring is used, every service, except a replayor re-serve, results in a point.
If the serving team wins the rally, it receives a point andcontinues to serve. The scorekeeperslashes a point in the serving team’s PointColumn for the serving team. The scorekeeper records a point in the squareimmediately to the right of the last point of the server.
If the receiving team wins the rally, it receives a pointand the ball for service. Place a hashmark in the box immediately following the serving team player’s lastpoint. The point is recorded on the lineof the next server’s number for the receiving team, and a square is drawnaround it. The scorekeeper also draws asquare around the same point on the receiving team’s running score in the Point Column.
Players may enter the game an unlimited number of times butalways in the same service position in relation to teammates. An unlimited number of players are allowed toenter at a given service position, provided they have not already participatedin another position in the serving order.The team is allowed a total of 18 substitutions.
Let Serves
Let servesoccur when a served ball touches the net, but goes over, remaining inplay. Let serves for each team should berecorded in the next available let serve number under each team’s respective Player Number Column.
Time outs are recorded in the Time Out box locatedabove the Player Number Column, listing first the scoreof the team taking the time out followed by the score of the opponent.
PenaltyPoints
If the serving team or player is assessed a penalty, theopponent is awarded a point and the ball for service. The Penalty Point is recorded on the line ofthe next server’s number of the receiving team (P1) and a square is drawnaround it. Also, draw a square aroundthat same point on the receiving team’s running score.
When the incorrect player serves the ball the scorekeepermust immediately notify the umpire so that play can be stopped. The receiving team receives a point and theball for service. The point is recordedon the line of the next server’s number and a square is drawn around it. The scorekeeper also draws a square aroundthe same point on the team’s running score in the Point Column.
Penalties for illegal uniform/equipment, exceptionalsubstitution, red and yellow cards or an unconscious/apparently unconsciousplayer should be noted in the Comments section. Uniform/equipment violations and cards forunsportsmanlike conduct carry over from game to game.
When using the Comments section, the informationrecorded includes the team involved, referee action, and uniform number of player, and thescore at the time of the incident.Scores will always be listed with the score of team involved in thecomment recorded first. Noteworthysituations include, but are not limited to the following referee actions:

Post Game Procedures
1. Thescorekeeper fills in the end time of the game.
2. The scorekeeper tallies thefollowing statistics in the Game Summary section:
a. winning team
b. losing team
c. game score
3. The scorekeeper reviews thescore sheet for completeness, taking special care to verify that the scores arecorrect.
4. The referee and umpire shouldsign the score sheet for each game.
Note: All other standard scoring procedures apply asprescribed by the National Federation.
